The best new mobile puzzle games of 2020

Puzzles in games come in a whole variety of different shapes and sizes, as a matter of fact almost every type of games has puzzles in them. Some platformers have only one route through their levels, with hidden areas blocking off the only path; Some shooters need you to head through areas in specific manners in order to clear a level; And, of course, survival horror games are normally rife with box-puzzle and item-finding puzzles. However, today we’re here to talk about the humble puzzle genre – where the puzzling experience is put first – and that’s why we’ve pulled together our list of the best new mobile puzzle games of 2020.

As it turned out, we all spent a bit more time inside through 2020 than we originally thought we would. For those of us who like to test our brains and exercise our logic, puzzle games have been a handy tool to keep us fresh when we’ve not been dipping into the physical puzzles of a platformer or the mental solutions asked of narrative games.

In this list we’re going to focus on the games that are pure puzzle, stripped down to the basics. These are games which focus entirely on a simple-seeming path to solution, but they also do clever things with their design, deployment or simply have really great puzzles.

So, without further delay, click through below to find out what are, in our opinion, the best new mobile puzzle games of 2020.

Blue

Blue

Bart has been making puzzle games since the early flash days. He is also known for making puzzle games simply named after a color, and Blue is a new entry to this series! Blue is a very simple puzzle game where you must turn the entire level blue, by messing with the items on screen. There often isn’t much to look at and mess with, but there is so much freedom that you might get stuck for ages on a very simple level. With no instructions, Blue really is a simple yet perfectly made puzzle game.

Early Worm

Available on: iOS

Genre: Platform, Puzzle

Early Worm

Early Worm is a physics-based puzzle game where you play as an interesting worm, who just wants to collect all of the apples in each level. You are able to sling your little worm body around, sticking to walls with honey and bouncing around on small mushroom beds. There are quite a few different environmental features, including water that you can swim in and antigravity. Though it’s not as simple as some pure puzzle games, each of these small levels provides a tiny puzzle to play in.

#AkiRobots

#AkiRobots

#AkiRobots is a 2D puzzle platformer where you have to control all of the different robots at once, moving all of them together. This can result in a lot of challenges, as moving one robot further might block off an area, focusing you to move back. Some robots are quite long, other’s are just cubes, and many have different features that make them unique. It’s worth mentioning that #AkiRobots also has a level editor, allowing players to create their own levels and share them with friends!

Peak’s Edge

Developer: Kenny Sun

Publisher: Kenny Sun

Genre: Puzzle

Peak's Edge

Peak’s Edge is a really unique puzzle game as it has a lot of roguelike elements, but looks sleek and simple like a pure puzzle game. You are a pyramid, who can move around a small hexagon, waving your way through enemies and falling further into the depths of the dungeon. You are able to equip powerful armor to your pyramid sides, which can help you last longer in the dungeon!

5

Deadword

Available on: iOS

Genre: Word game

Deadword

A zombie-themed puzzle game was sure to make it on the list, and this one is DEADWORD, a puzzle game all about spelling and creating new words to move around a map full of dangerous zombies. Evolving a simple four letter word can allow you to strategically move through a city, where you can also gather supplies and find clues as to what is going on. It’s a neat take on the survival genre and one that is, indeed, primarily a puzzle game.
