In an interview yesterday on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, actor Ethan Suplee detailed his long journey to healthier living, and revealed that he struggles at times to appreciate how far he’s come.
Looking back at photos of himself at his heaviest, Suplee opened up about some of the negative feelings that he still deals with. “It’s incredibly satisfying, but look,” he said. “The reality is that I have mental illness and I don’t look at myself and think, ‘God I look great.’ I see nothing but negative stuff every day and I try to convince myself.'”
Asked when he first started to experience feelings of body dysmorphia, Suplee recalled going on a diet at five years old and hearing people tell him that the way he looked was wrong. “I wasn’t obese at five. I was a chubby five year old, but I was super active,” he said. “I wasn’t eating junk food all day long.”
